The number of inmates killed at Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz is increasing every day.
Ali Zargani, 21, son of Fakher, was killed during rebellions on Monday, March 30, 2020. He is the thirteenth murdered prisoner whose name has been verified.
Only after 10 days of protests by families, prison officials contacted Ali Zargani’s family and informed them that he had been killed.
Prisoners who protested because for lack of sanitary supplies and refusal of furloughs during coronavirus outbreak, were attacked by security forces with tear gas and gunshots. Dozens of prisoners died during the uprising.
In fear of further rebellion in prison and protest of detainee’s families, authorities refrain to from providing information to the families.
Although 13 names have been verified, the situation and fate of many remains unknown, while the death toll is rising every day. Cutting off water supply and refusal of furloughs or visits adds to the families’ worries.
Dozens of women are imprisoned in this prison and are denied the right to furloughs and to visit their families, too.
