The coronavirus outbreak has extreme dimensions in Orumiyeh Central Prison.
According to “No to Prison – No to Execution”, a prisoner named Fereydoun fainted and fell on the ground in the outside area due to coronavirus infection on Thursday morning, May 7, 2020.
Left at his own and unable to breathe properly, the inmate was on the ground for hours. Only after other prisoners protested, he was first transferred to the dispensary ward and then due to his critical condition to the hospital.
According to reports, three other inmates of ward 2 and 3 of the same prison are in a critical condition for the past three days, and despite repeated visits to the prison guards and officials, no action has been taken.
The prison and its surroundings are extremely polluted, and prisoners are at risk of contracting the coronavirus.
It is to be mentioned that in Orumiyeh prison at least five have died due to the coronavirus and over 50 prisoners are infected. It has spread even among prison staff.
The lives of deprived and defenseless prisoners are of no value to this government;
Just as thousands have died from the virus outside of the prison, the government is not taking the smallest action to prevent the virus spread inside prisons. The regime is instead killing more people by covering up the truth and normalizing the situation.
