Sunni prisoners in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj are deprived of furloughs despite coronavirus outbreak.
According to “No to Prison – No to Execution”, the coronavirus has spread since about two and a half months in Iran. Though more than 10 of the political Sunni prisoners of ward 7 of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj have to serve less than two years of their sentence, none of them have been pardoned, released or given furloughs. That’s despite Raisi and other oppressive and criminal officials of the judiciary’s empty promises, regarding the release of prisoners and furloughs.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, face-to-face as well as closed visits have been banned in the prison for about two and a half months.
On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, Moharremi of the intelligence department summoned a group of Sunni political prisoners to ward 8 of the Intelligence Department in Rajai Shahr Prison. In a long discussion with the prisoners, he stated that the reason for not granting their release or leave is the judiciary’s refusal.
He then continued by saying that even if the judiciary would have agreed: “we (intelligence department) would hinder it. You are anti-regime and you are deprived of everything. We do a great favor for you alone by releasing you at the end of your sentence. If it were up to me, I would never allow your release.”
