A prisoner has executed in Iran – Ardabil prison ; 17th execution in this month

According to “No to Prison – No to Execution”, the death sentence of an inmate named Iraj Sedighi was carried out in Ardebil Prison on Monday morning, June 15, 2020.
The prisoner was charged with murder and imprisoned in juvenile detention since January 2018.
This is the 17th execution since the last 27 days. On Wednesday at least 7 prisoners were hanged.
Recently, Hedayat Abdollahpour was secretly hanged as well.
“No to Prison – No to Execution” strongly condemns death sentences for any reason and under any pretext, and emphasizes that they must be stopped.
Iran has the highest number of executions in proportion to its population.
According to our sources and the statistics gathered from various sources, there were 281 executions in 2019, of which 15 were women.
Since in many cases, the executions are announced to up to several months later or are not made public, the real figures are much higher.

259 men, including 3 political prisoners
15 women
7 children
On April 21, 2020, Amnesty International released its annual report on of the global use of the death penalty, according to which, Iran has the highest rate of executions in the world after China.
