Execution in Shiraz Prison
19th June 2020
According to “Iran Human Rights”, Yasser Abdollahzadeh’s death sentence was carried out in Shiraz Prison on Tuesday morning, June 16, 2020.
The 31 years old prisoner was charged with murder. He was imprisoned since July 2017.
According to reports, the young man committed murder due to financial disputes. His hanging has not been reported in any official media in Iran.
This is the 18th execution of the past month.
On June 18, Diana Eltahawy, Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Deputy Director said: “Iran continues to execute several hundred people every year, earning the shameful spot of the second top executioner in the world.”
“No to Prison – No to Execution” condemns death sentences for any reason and under any pretext and emphasizes that it must be stopped.
Iran has the highest number of executions in proportion to its population.
According to our sources and the statistics gathered from various sources, there were 281 executions in 2019, of which 15 were women.
Since in many cases, the executions are announced to up to several months later or are not made public, the real figures are much higher.
