Prison officials kill student under torture and claim car crash as cause of death
21th June 2020
A medical student, who was arrested 18 months ago in silence by Kermanshah’s security forces, was tortured to death. His body was handed over to his family on June 18, 2020.
The intelligence department told his family that their son had died in a car accident, while in reality Khalil Moradi, a pharmaceutical student, died under tortures of security agents.
Khalil Moradi, 32, was from Salas Babajani and lived in Javanroud. He was a pharmacy student at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences. He was arrested in November 2018 by Kermanshah’s Intelligence department on charges of collaborating with a Kurdish party opposed to the Islamic Republic.
A source close to his family said that Khalil worked at a pharmacy in Kermanshah at the time of his arrest, and that his family had no contact with him since his arrest until he was tortured to death.
According to reports, Kermanshah’s intelligence had refused to provide any information about Khalil Moradi to his family and relatives. It was only after the family of the student paid a certain sum to a government official when they found out that their son was arrested on unspecified charges.
At the time of his arrest, Khalil Moradi did not have the minimum rights of a prisoner. During the two years of his detention, he was not allowed one single call with his family. He was even deprived of a lawyer, his name was not published in any kind of press and nobody knew of his arrest.
During these two years, his family repeatedly referred to the judicial authorities in Kermanshah, but received no response.
On Thursday, June 18, the Intelligence Service contacted his family and told them to go to Kermanshah’s forensic doctor to identify and deliver their son’s body.
Until this writing, the forensic medicine has not clarified the cause of Khalil Moradi’s death, and any local or official media have not confirmed or announced the news.
The only thing which is clear, is that Khalil Moradi’s body, was handed to his family after two years of uncertainty.
The Kermanshah Judiciary and Intelligence department must be held accountable for this case.
It is worth mentioning that on June 18, 2020, another prisoner was killed in Saqqez prison under torture and his father was forced to testify that he died due to the coronavirus in order to receive his body.
Murder under torture is one of the most common human rights abuses in the judiciary of the Velayat-e-Faqih. Its direct responsible are Ebrahim Raisi and Ali Khamenei.
