Execution in Dehdasht Prison

On Sunday, July 10, 2020, a prisoner charged with murder was hanged in Dehdasht prison.
According to “No to Prison – No to Execution”, Habib Sobhani’s death sentence was carried out in Dehdasht prison on Sunday, July 10, 2020.
Two years ago, Habib Sobhani had committed murder in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Privince.
The 49 years-old graduated in civil engineering, was married and father to 4 daughters.
His death sentence was reviewed by the Criminal Court of Kohkiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Provinces and approved by the Supreme Court.
During the execution of the sentence, the victim’s father, who is a member of the Revolutionary Guards, refused to give his consent and said, “I can’t give my consent because I work in the IRGC and I have a reputation, if I do so, they will say that my daughter must have had a problem.”
Habib Sobhani’s funeral was held on Wednesday, July 8, in Rak village.
His execution was not announced in any public media.
This is the 16th execution during the last 20 days and the 128nd since the beginning of the 2020 year .
Since in many cases, the executions are announced to up to several months later or are not made public at all, the real figures are much higher.
“No to Prison – No to Execution” strongly condemns death sentences for any reason and under any pretext and emphasizes that it must be stopped. The death penalty violates basic human rights and must be stopped immediately.
Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”
Iran has the highest number of executions in proportion to its population.
