On Saturday, July 4, 2020, a prisoner charged with murder was hanged in Mashhad Central prison.
According to Rokna News Agency, Ahmad F.’s death sentence was carried out in Mashhad prison on Saturday, July 4, 2020.
The 32 years-old was sentenced to death in the Mashhad Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office. Despite the protest of the defendant and his lawyer, the verdict was upheld by the Fourth Branch of the Supreme Court and the judges recognized the death sentence “according to Islamic law”.
The death sentence of this prisoner was carried out under the direct supervision of Judge Zargar, who is known as the “Judge with experience in executing inhuman death sentences.”
This is the 128rd execution since the beginning of the year 2020.
Since in many cases, the executions are announced to up to several months later or are not made public at all, the real figures are much higher.
“No to Prison – No to Execution” strongly condemns death sentences for any reason and under any pretext and emphasizes that it must be stopped. The death penalty violates basic human rights and must be stopped immediately.
Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”
Iran has the highest number of executions in proportion to its population.
