Execution in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj
On Wednesday, June 11, 2020, a prisoner charged with murder was hanged in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.
According to “No to Prison – No to Execution”, Hossein Jalavand’s death sentence was carried out in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj on Wednesday, June 11, 2020.
An informed source stated:
“Hossein Jalavand was from Tehran. Addicts used to consume drugs in an abandoned place next to his house. One day, Hossein Jalavand sets fire to one of the motorcycles which belonged to one of the addits, to protest against their consumption next to his place. But by doing so, he had accidentally burned some of the addicts which were inside the building.
Though nobody complained, the Tehran prosecutor acted as his plaintiff and sentenced him to death.”
His execution has not been reported to any official media.
This is the 62nd execution since the beginning of the Persian new year (21st March).
Since in many cases, the executions are announced to up to several months later or are not made public at all, the real figures are much higher.
“No to Prison – No to Execution” strongly condemns death sentences for any reason and under any pretext and emphasizes that it must be stopped.
Iran has the highest number of executions in proportion to its population.
According to our sources and the statistics gathered from various sources, there were 281 executions in 2019, of which 15 were women.
