On Monday morning, June 29, 2020, a prisoner charged with murder was hanged in Zanjan Central Prison.
According to “No to Prison – No to Execution”, Yousef Rahmani’s death sentence was carried out in Zanjan Central Prison on Monday morning, June 29, 2020.
The 40 years old prisoner from Ghazvin was charged with murder.
A report regarding his case stated: “Yousef Rahmani was supposed to be hanged before the holy month of Ramadan. Then they said he will be executed after Ramadan. Rahmani was arrested and condemned to death in 2017. The dispute was about 9 million Tomans (± 430 euros).
His execution has not been reported to any official media.
According to reports, this is the fourth execution of this week and the 118th since the beginning of the year 2020.
Since in many cases, the executions are announced to up to several months later or are not made public at all, the real figures are much higher.
On Monday morning (June 29) and on Tuesday morning (June 30), two other inmates named Mohammad Aziz Mahmoudi and Seyyed Yahya Moussavi Aghche were hanged in Sanandaj and Isfahan Prison.
“No to Prison – No to Execution” strongly condemns death sentences for any reason and under any pretext and emphasizes that it must be stopped.
Iran has the highest number of executions in proportion to its population.
