The execution of four inmates in Gorgan, Shiraz and Rajai Shahr prisons has been carried out in recent days.
According to “No to Prison – No to Execution”, Basat Seyedi’s death sentence was carried out in Gorgan prison on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
The 43 years-old from Torkaman was sentenced to death on charges of murder, by Judge Fazilat. The verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court and was carried out on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
Basat Seyyedi was married and father of three. Sources state that he was suffering from COVID19, but officials carried out his death sentence disregarding his physical state.
Another prisoner names Amir Abbas Salehi’s death sentence was carried out in Shiraz prison on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
The inmate from Marvdasht was sentenced to death on charges of murder. He was imprisoned for four years before his execution.
Two more death sentences were carried out in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.
Karim Alizadeh (on Saturday morning, June 27) and Mohammad Yazdani (on Sunday noon, June 28) were transferred to the solitary confinement for their death sentences to be carried out.
The two prisoners were executed at the same time as Hossein Jalavand, Mostafa Mohammadi and Milad Kheradmand.
All of the prisoners were charged with murder.
It is to be mentioned that two other Mashhad prison inmates were hanged on July 8, 2020. Javad A., 42 was charged with murder and the other young prisoner was cruelly sentenced to death on charges of “drinking alcoholic beverages”.
During the last 19 days, at least 15 death sentences have been carried out, which adds up to a total of 71 executions since the beginning of the Persian new year (21st March).
Since in many cases, the executions are announced to up to several months later or are not made public at all, the real figures are much higher.
Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”
Iran has the highest number of executions in proportion to its population.
