The prison doctor gave a dose of pills to Behnam Mahjoubi and said: “Wait until Monday, if you survive, we will send you to the hospital and if you die, how much better.” This is after receiving a medical letter regarding the requirement of his release and his deteriorating condition while today is Thursday, Behnam Mahjoubi is still in a very serious condition in the prison’s ward and no action has been taken to save his life.
A reliable source told the Human Rights Center of No to prison, no to execution that Behnam is in a very bad condition and everyone is worried about his condition. He was supposed to be sent to the hospital on Monday for more medical investigations. But so far, no action has been taken.
Behnam Mahjoubi is serving a two-year prison sentence, but even from a medical point of view, his continued imprisonment threatens his life, and he should not be imprisoned. On Sunday when his health condition was deteriorated, he was forcibly transferred to Aminabad Hospital, where psychiatric patients are kept, and was subjected to severe physical and mental tortures.
An informed source stated about Behnam’s condition at the hospital: “At Razi Aminabad Hospital, Behnam was injected with 4 ampoules and given a series of drugs that we do not know what they were and what happened. According to him, he fainted from the injections and did not notice anything. And spent 5 nights in Aminabad Hospital. When he returned to prison, his body slowly began to shake and he could not get up properly, and his left side was numb. He was transferred to the forensic doctor of the prison.”
The source added: “Two weeks ago, Behnam’s illness was confirmed by the prison’s doctor and that he should not stay in prison. The doctor gave him a letter and Behnam took the letter to the prison officer giving it to Evin’s Medical Center. The verdict was handed down on the same day.”
However, the performance of the prison sentences, the medical authorities, and the officials of Evin Prison did not take any action to improve the life of this prisoner.
The source continued:
“On Saturday, Behnam’s condition worsened, and he was sent to the hospital three times. The doctor did not examine him the first and second time, and the third time he becomes so ill that the guard officer takes him to the prison’s hospital. The prison’s doctor gives him only one serum, and then a cup with 24 pills in it. He tells the prisoner to take the pills, and then you are sent to the hospital. But, due to his experience, Behnam did not take the pills because they had previously affected his nervous system and paralyzed him. Therefore, the doctor got angry and said: “Now that you do not take the pills, go to your room until Monday, and if you survive, I will send you to the hospital, and if you die, how much better!”
On Monday, Behnam’s cellmates followed his transfer, but received the answer that we do not have a doctor, and no one is in the hospital!
The same source stated about Behnam’s condition: “These days, after returning from the prison’s doctor, his body has been in severe pain and he is gradually losing his memory; So that he even says, for example, why my brother does not come to visit me when he does not have a brother at all! Or, for example, he has forgotten his phone numbers. He wakes up several times at night and says that someone called me, and someone wants to say something to me while everyone is asleep.”
His friends say: “We do not know exactly what they want from Behnam, although he has been confirmed by a forensic doctor, they are not releasing him and are not taking him to the medical center to get complete treatment. We suspect that someone is behind this case and is preventing his release.”
It is worth mentioning that on the first day that Behnam Mahjoubi introduced himself to endure imprisonment, he took his doctor’s letter to Amin Vaziri and said that he is ill and is under treatment, but Amin Vaziri told him to go to prison and from there to forensic doctor.
During the first month of his imprisonment, he received specialized drugs by his friends from outside. The harassment started in the second month. They stopped the transfer of his drugs and did not allow Behnam’s friends and family to deliver his medical treatment. He went on a five-day hunger strike to protest the situation, as a result of which prison officials were forced to allow his medical treatment to be given to him.
Once again, Behnam Mahjoubi went on a ten-day hunger strike in support of Nasrin Sotoudeh, and in support of political prisoners whose lives were in danger of the corona virus. After the strike, prison officials intensified their harassment to the political prisoner. They banded his medical treatments. Behnam’s condition worsened again, but this time the prison authorities took him to Razi Aminabad Hospital (Madhouse) instead of the hospital.
An informed source said about his transfer: “Behnam called and said that they are going to the railway square. Saying that a hospital is there! But a little later, he called and said that they had taken him to Razi Aminabad Hospital. He was beaten there and when he protested, they quickly give him an injection. His hands and feet were cuffed to the bed like a Christ cross. There are things that I am ashamed to say about what happened to him and one day he may define them himself. But his condition was very bad that when he wanted to go to the bathroom, they took him with his hands and feet chained. Even in an isolated room he was kept in that position. There are still bruises on his wrists and ankles as a result of the chains.
