On Sunday morning, November 8, 2020, a young prisoner was executed in Mashhad Central Prison.
The Human Rights Center of No to prison, no to execution, quoting from Khorasan News Agency reported that on Sunday morning, November the 8th, the death sentence of a 26-year-old prisoner by the name of Mehrdad, who was arrested and sentenced to death two years ago on charges of murder, was carried out in Mashhad Central Prison.
Mehrdad was arrested in September 2018 for murdering his friend’s wife and has been in detention ever since. The death sentence was issued in the Fourth Branch of the Criminal Court of Khorasan Razavi and was sent to Branch 37 of the Supreme Court for approval which was confirmed. As a result, the 26-year-old prisoner was executed on Sunday morning, November 8, and his friend was sentenced to a long prison term in Mashhad Central Prison.
It is to be reminded that on the morning of November 8, the death sentence of a 62-year-old prisoner who was sentenced to death, 15 years imprisonment, and 100 lashes for the murder of an 11-year-old child was carried out in the same prison. Therefore, two executions were implemented in one day without any mercy!
Thus, according to the Statistics Center of the Human Rights Center of No to prison, no to execution, at least 227 prisoners have been executed since the beginning of this year. However, the actual number is probably more than the number announced since many of the executions that take place in the medieval prisons of the Velayat-e-Faqih are not even recorded or announced at all and are carried out in secret.
