According to the human rights center of No to Prison-No to Execution, at dawn of Wednesday August 4, 2021, inmate Mojtaba Tondroo was executed after serving 17 years in jail. Mr. Tondroo was taken for execution once before in November of 2020 to quarantine section but was returned to the ward after being physically and mentally tortured.
Mr. Tondroo was 45, from Kermanshah. He was arrested 17 years ago on charge of murder and was sentenced to death.
The report also says that Mr. Tondroo’s brother, Mohammad, an army man and a wrestler was formerly executed for unknown charges.
It is to be mentioned that at dawn of Wednesday, August 4, another inmate, Farzad Afsordeh, was executed at Jiroft Prison, Kerman, too.
Adding these two executions, the number of executions since the onset of the current Persian Year (March 21, 2021) has reached 111. This is while many executions are covertly carried out and there is no news of them on any of the state-run media, thus the real number of executions is higher.
It is to be noted that since Ibrahim Raisi was appointed as president until his time of inauguration, in less than two months, at least 68 prisoners have been executed.
Death Sentence, for any reason and on any excuse is in violation of international laws and must be stopped and totally rescinded.
The human rights center of No to Prison-No to Execution calls for complete revocation of this inhuman punishment.
We oppose death sentence under all criteria and without any exceptions.
Death sentence is the most inhumane, brutal and mortifying kind of punishment; it violates the right to life, recognized at the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
