About political prisoner Mohammad Ali Mansoori:
Political prisoner Mohammad Ali (Pirooz) Mansoori, 61, has three children. Mr. Mansoori was arrested on September 2, 2007, after attending a ceremony commemorating the political prisoners massacred in 1988 and was sent to ward 209 of Evin Prison, where he remained in solitary confinement for 77 days and was then transferred to a public ward.
Branch 15 of the Revolution Court, presiding over by Judge Salavati, sentenced him to 17 years in prison, exile to Rajai Shahr Prison, and a fine of 150,000 Tomans on charges of “having connection with the PMOI/MEK”, which was upheld by the Appeals Court.
During his 14 years in prison, Pirooz Mansoori was repeatedly transferred to solitary confinement in Evin and Rajai Shahr prisons and subjected to torture and interrogation. Finally, during his 11th year in prison, in mid spring of 2018, under the pretext of “activities inside prison,” he was sentenced to an additional five years in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion against the state” with instances such as “going on hunger strike and inciting prisoners and issuing a statement regarding the death sentence of Sunni prisoners.”
Mansoori stated: “In a new case opened for me by the Ministry of Intelligence in mid spring of 2017, I was transferred to Ward 209 for a month and was interrogated. My new allegation was using the Telegram.” He was also under pressure to have a TV interview.
In midsummer of 2018, after being brutally beaten, he was transferred to a ward full of wiretaps and security cameras with metal shields at Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, where he and other prisoners in that ward went on a 40-day hunger strike to protest the transfer, which enjoyed domestic and international support.
This political prisoner is still detained at Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.
