There are reports of Zahra Safaee’s heart attack in Qarchak prison in Varamin and concerns about her life.
The head of Qarchak prison opposed her dispatch to a private hospital despite the family accepting all expenses.
According to the human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” on September 4, 2021, news received by this center say that political prisoner Zahra Safaee has suddenly had a heart attack at Qarchak Prison on Tuesday, August 31.
She was transferred from the prison to Sattari Hospital in Qarchak, and after necessary examinations, the doctor determined that she was in need of an angiography.
However, due to the difficult conditions she had at the hospital, being chained in hands and feet, and though in dire health condition, she asked to be returned to the prison.
Other reports indicate that political prisoner Zahra Safaee should have been transferred from prison to the hospital on Saturday morning, September 4, for her angiography, and until this hour, there is no information about her condition.
Despite efforts by the prisoner’s family to transfer her to a private hospital and their acceptance to payment for all the costs of her tests and treatment, the warden denied permission.

Political prisoner Zahra Safaee, who has been suffering from shortness of breath and chest pain in Qarchak Prison for two months, received no response in repeated visits to the infirmary and repeated referrals to the prison authorities for treatment and being referred to a hospital.
On Tuesday, August 24, Zahra Safaee was taken to the prison infirmary by other prisoners while she was in a critical condition, but still the prison officials say there is no problem. They returned her to the ward by giving her some painkillers.
On Friday, August 27, when the cardiologist happened to have gone to prison after a long time, after visiting this political prisoner, and examining her, he diagnosed her with a heart attack and declared Zahra Safaee’s condition as an emergency and ordered her to be taken to the hospital immediately.
But it was only after four days, on August 31, that she was transferred from prison to the hospital while being in a dire health condition.
