The ceremony of Abbasqoli Salehi’s memorial in Yazdanshahr was held on the 7th night of his execution.
According to the human rights center of “No to Prison, No to Execution” Mr Abbasqoli Salehi’s memorial, a young man from Bakhtiari tribe, was held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Fatemeh Paradise Cemetery in Yazdanshahr, a huge crowd attending. He was executed after being jailed for 20 years in Dastgerd Prison of Isfahan.
The ceremony was held from 2 to 5 p.m. with a large crowd of residents of Yazdanshahr and Isfahan, as well as Abbasqoli Salehi’s family and friends.
The people of the city went to Fatemeh Paradise cemetery and commemorated him by praying for him while the security forces were present.
Abbasqoli Salehi was 42 years old and single. He has been in prison since the age of 22 and was executed after 20 years of imprisonment.
On Wednesday, September 29, 2021, the prisoner was executed on drug charges. Prison agents did not hand over the body in fear of protests and postponed the delivery for the next day. The executed prisoner’s father had to make commitment to keep silence and not protest.
Abbasqoli Salehi’s execution came as, after announcing to the prisoner’s family to go to prison and visit their loved ones for the last time, a large number of people in Isfahan gathered in front of Isfahan Dastgerd Prison and demanded that the sentence be halted.
In protest of her son’s execution in front of the prison, the prisoner’s mother shouted: “Come forward and tell me why a young person should be executed in the Islamic country?”
Regarding the charge against the prisoner, a relative of Abbasqoli said, “The charge against him was dropped, but there is no law here and he was executed.”
Abbasqoli Salehi’s father was threatened to keep silence and not to protest after the execution of his son. When the father came out of the prison, he told the crowd: “People, please go.” “I lost my child, don’t cause trouble for my other child (Abbasqoli’s other brother is also in prison) and I will be ashamed of you as the officers will raid us, lest anyone’s blood be shed.”
