Execution of Abbasqoli Salehi in Isfahan Prison was carried out on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
Abbasqoli Salehi’s death sentence was carried out after 20 years of imprisonment in Isfahan Prison, and the prison’s agents did not hand over the body in fear of protests and postponed it for the next day.
The human rights center of “No to Prison, No to Execution”- At dawn on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, Abbasqoli Salehi was executed on drug charges after being in prison for nearly 20 years. Prison agents did not hand over the body in fear of protests and postponed it for tomorrow. The executed prisoner’s father had to make a commitment that there would be no protests and if there is he will be held accountable for it.
Abbasqoli Salehi’s execution came as a large number of people of Isfahan had gathered in front of Esfahan Prison since the night before and after announcing to the prisoner’s family to go to prison and visit their loved one for the last time; they demanded that the sentence to be stopped.
The prisoner’s mother shouted in front of the prison and said, “Come forward and see why a young person should be executed in the Islamic country?”
Abbasqoli Salehi was 42 years old and single. He has been in prison since he was 22 years old. On Tuesday, September 28, his family was informed to go to prison to see him for the last time.
A relative of Abbasqoli said: “The charge against him was dropped, but there are no laws here and he was executed.”
Also, an informed source said: “Abbasqoli’s father has been severely threatened that there should be no protests. When his father came out of the prison, he said, “People, please go.” “I lost my child, don’t make trouble for my other one (Abbasqoli’s other brother is also in prison). I’ll be ashamed if the agents raid you and bloods are shed.””
Last night, following the announcement of the execution, a large number of people in Isfahan gathered in front of Dastgerd Prison and demanded that the sentence be halted, but the judiciary executes regardless of the law and the will of the people.
Considering the execution of Abbasqoli Salehi in Esfahan Prison, at least 157 people have been executed since the beginning of 1400 (March 21, 2021).
The death penalty, for any reason and excuse, violates international law and must be abolished and stopped completely.
Regardless of the crime, the death penalty is the most inhumane and degrading, and its use cannot be justified in any circumstances.
According to Amnesty International’s annual report, more than two-thirds of the world’s countries (144 countries) have now abolished the death penalty in law or in practice. But the execution machine in Iran is accelerating every day, and with Ebrahim Raisi’s presidency and the Eje’ee’s presidency over the Judiciary, executions have accelerated.
