Political prisoner Rahim Afravi, in prison for 22 years without leave is under absolute news boycott.
He is confined under harsh conditions in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz and is deprived of medical care.
The human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution”, quoting the Khakzadegan News Channel- Political prisoner Rahim Afravi, an Arab political activist from Koy-e-Alavi in Ahvaz who was arrested by the Intelligence Directorate in 1999 and sentenced to 25 years in prison, is currently spending his 22nd year in jail without a day of furlough, under news boycott, and deprived of medical care in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.
According to the report, Rahim Afravi was sentenced to 25 years in prison and exile on charges including “waging war against God (Moharebeh)” and “acting against national security.”
During his 22 years in prison, political prisoner Rahim Afravi has been through extremely difficult conditions and has been afflicted with many illnesses and problems due to torture and the harsh prison conditions. Unfortunately, no reports have been published about him in any media outlets (except one case) in all these years. Rahim Afravi suffers from a variety of diseases, including heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure and lung problems. He has been denied any medical care over the years. Rahim Afravi was arrested by intelligence forces on his return from work on the Ahvaz Road in Mullahshieh district in July 1999. He was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Farajollah Abdollahi, on charges of “Moharebeh” and “acting against national security”. After appealing, the sentence was changed to 25 years imprisonment and exile to Jiroft prison which was upheld by a revision court.
Political prisoner Rahim Afravi lost his parents during his time in exile in Jiroft Prison in Kerman, and it was difficult to visit his children because of the distance.
After 13 years, he was transferred to Karoon Prison and then Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, up to now.
HRANA news agency, which first published the news, also reported that political prisoner Rahim Afravi had contracted coronavirus during his imprisonment.
In September of this year, his request to be sent on leave for the remainder of his imprisonment was rejected by Branch 12 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court.
Rahim Afravi was born in 1968 and is married and a father of two. He is a native of Koy-e-Alavi in Ahvaz.
