The trial of political prisoner Soheil Arabi was held in Tehran Revolutionary Court on August 28, 2021, and the verdict was upheld by Branch 36 of the Supreme Court.
Soheil Arabi was summoned to court through a communique sent to his grandfather’s house. The hearing was held on August 28, 2021, in Tehran Revolutionary Court. Mr. Arabi did not attend the hearing as he didn’t recognize the court as just so the sentence was issued in his absentia. His lawyer objected the verdict. However, it was upheld on December 16 in Branch 36.
New charges against Soheil Arabi include “preparing several reports on the situation in the Greater Tehran prison”, “criticizing the actions of prison officials, especially the supervising assistant prosecutor”, “going on a hunger strike to protest the deprivation of political prisoners of their right to medical treatment”, and “issuing several statements in support of the right to a popular protest regarding the November 2019 uprising” and “condemned the killing and torture of protesters”.
When indicted with these charges, Mr. Arabi had denied committing a security crime and had asked for an investigation in regard with the charges against him regarding the cyber space.
Soheil Arabi had previously been charged with “propaganda activities against the regime” and “disturbing the public opinion” in a separate case on Monday, May 24, 2021, via video conference by Branch 3 of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office.
These new cases are opened against him while he should have been released from jail eight months ago if the Article 12 of Reduction of Punishment was implemented in his case. But he was released instead on November 16, when his prison term was over from Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj and was exiled to Borazjan County under harsh and inhumane conditions to serve his two years of exile.
Being transferred to Borazjan, he was not allowed to take anything with himself, he didn’t even have proper clothing on. For this transfer, Captain Ramezani extorted three million tomans from Soheil Arabi to take him to the place of exile by plane, but instead he was transferred in a Peugeot by an addicted driver.
Mr. Arabi has said in this regard: “The driver went asleep during driving several times and deviated from the path and went to the opposite lane. I shouted at him, You idiot if you are sleepy stop! Three thousand days of imprisonment and torture didn’t kill me, do you want to kill me for your hangover!?… »
Soheil Arabi was left in a state of limbo for hours in Borazjan without any money or phone, and no agency took responsibility for such a situation.
