Political prisoner, Mohammad-Javad Vafaei-Thani, is sentenced to death by Mashhad Revolutionary Court on charge of “corruption on earth”
The human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution”, Sunday, January 9, 2022- Lawyer, Babak Paknia declared in his official twitter account that a decree of execution has been issued for the political prisoner, Seyyed Mohammad-Javad Vafaei-Thani, on charge of “corruption on earth” at branch No.4 of Mashhad Revolutionary Court.
According to this lawyer an appeal can be requested for the sentence.
Seyyed Mohammad-Javad Vafaei-Thani, 26, is the boxing champion for Mashhad’s boxing training institutions. He was arrested in late winter of 2020 in city of Mashhad.
It is said that a heavy bail of 30 billion tomans (about 7,100,591 US dollars) has been appointed for his temporarily release, which of course his family were not able to provide.
Lawyer Babak Paknia will announce his appeal within the next 20 days.

“According to the verdict issued by the Fourth Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad, Seyyed Mohammad-Javad Vafaei-Thani was sentenced to death by hanging on charges of “corruption on earth”; This verdict can be appealed in the Supreme Court. He is charged with intentionally torching and destroying certain places, including the Government Penitentiary building; I reviewed the text of the vote today and will write and register my appeal within the next twenty days.”
The human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” calls on all human rights organizations, especially Amnesty International and the United Nations, to take action to stop the inhumane death sentences in Iran and to put more pressure on Iran, to prevent more people from being killed by this regime.
