Black Wednesday executions rise in Gohardasht Prison upon previous warning that 300 inmates are in death row at this prison.
The number of people executed on Black Wednesday in Gohardasht increased with the news of the execution of another prisoner on Black Wednesday in Gohardasht. The human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” has warned before that 300 inmates charged with murder are in death row at this prison.
The human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” quoted Iran Human Rights Organization that another inmate, Seyyed Vahid Tabatabaei has been executed on charge of murder in Gohardasht Prison on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
Seyyed Vahid Tabataba’i, 39, was from Pishva, Varamin, and was sentenced to death on murder charges.
According to the report, quoting an informed source, “Vahid Tabataba’i was arrested seven years ago on murder charges while he had a six-month-old child at the time of his arrest. On Tuesday, when he was transferred to solitary confinement for execution, the victim’s family was supposed to consent on the same day for his pardon. They waited until 6:30 a.m., but they did not consent, and the sentence was carried out.”
In this way, once again, under the title of “Qisas (or Qesas is identical retribution)”, the unforgivable crime of execution of a human being was thrown on the victim’s family. The inhumane “Qisas” law involves the victim’s family in the process of killing another person sentenced to death by order of the judicial system. By preserving such conditions, the judicial system places the victim’s close relatives in a callous state, diminishes human characteristics and, over time, diminishes the value that society should place on the right to human life.
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, known as “Black Wednesday in Gohardasht”, another prisoner, Vahid Mousavi, was executed in the same prison.
Javanehha website had earlier stated that the Public Prosecutor Office had ordered that the cases of 300 death row prisoners should be closed at this prison to follow the order, Gohardasht Prison’s Sentence Enforcement Unit has brought up the cases of 300 prisoners sentenced to death, so that if the families of the victims do not consent to forgive the offenders, they will be executed.
In Gohardasht prison, death sentences are mainly carried out on Wednesdays.
