It is to be mentioned that despite her families follow up for her transfer to Evin Prison, Tehran, (where her family reside), they have received no answer. The Judiciary has refrained from giving any answer to the family and none of the Judiciary directorates accept the responsibility for her exile to Semnan Prison.
Maryam Akbari Monfared’s health is deteriorating in her 13th year of exile without having a day of furlough. According to the Judiciary’s regulations, she should have been released after 13 years of serving in prison, but not only she was not released but also was exiled to Semnan Prison without any reason and no governmental body accepts the responsibility for this exile.
Maryam Akbari Monfared is confined alongside the prisoners of ordinary and violent crimes contrary to the principle of “segregation of the crimes”.
Political Prisoner, Maryam Akbari Monfared was detained in Tehran on December 31, 2009, after the Ashura Uprising, and was sentenced to 15 years in jail by branch 15 of Tehran Revolutionary Court presided over by the notorious judge, Salavati.
Two brothers of the political prisoner, Maryam Akbari Monfared, were executed in 1981 and 1984 by the Islamic Republic of Iran on charge of having connection and being a member of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Her youngest brother and her sister are also among the victims of the massacre of political prisoners in summer of 1988. Once again, the human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” urges the international human rights organizations, European Parliament, Ms. Michelle Bachelet the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights and Mr. Javaid Rehman, the Especial Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran to send an investigative humanitarian mission to visit Iran’s prisons. Life of the prisoners in general and political prisoners in particular, is at stake in Iran regime’s inhumane prisons.
