Political prisoner, Hatam Ozdemir, a citizen from Turkey and confined in Urmia prison is sentenced to death.
The human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution”, Friday, March 18, 2022- Political prisoner Hatam Ozdemir, 25, from Agri Province in Turkey’s Kurdistan is sentenced to death by Khoy County Revolutionary Court on charge of “Baghi” (taking up arms against the state) through “membership in Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights quoted a source that “On Wednesday, March 15, 2022, the decree was officially imparted to him by the authorities in Urmia Central Prison.”
The hearing leading to this sentence was held in late summer of 2021.
According to the report, political prisoner, Hatam Ozdemir, was captured by IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps) forces while wounded and unconscious during a clash of this force with the members of PKK in Buralan region of Makoo on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.
On Tuesday, August 19, 2019, when his interrogation was over, Hatam Ozdemir was taken form IRGC Ramezan Base’s detention center to the political ward of Urmia Central Prison. During these years he has deeply suffered from kidney problems but has been deprived of any medical care.
