Most of the executions took place in Gohardasht, Urmia, Zahedan and Esfahan prisons.

Execution of child offenders:

Despite international condemnations for stopping the execution of child offenders in Iran, at least seven juvenile offenders were executed during this period, one of whom was a woman.
Because of the silence of the families and the wall of censorship, the statistics are likely more.

The names of the child offenders executed are:

  1. Baha’uddin Qasemzadeh at Urmia Central Prison
  2. Ebrahim Shahbakhsh at Isfahan Central Prison
  3. Sajjad Sanjari in Kermanshah Prison
  4. Arman Abdolali in Gohardasht Prison

At least four political prisoners were executed in 1400.

  3. And 4- Merhan Naqdi and Jahanbakhsh Abbasi were executed on January 12, 2022 at Khorramabad Central Prison on the charge of Moharebeh for setting fire to a gas station in khorramabad’s Dara-e Garm neighborhood and killing two police officers in 2018.

Arrests in 1400:

According to reports collected by the Human Rights Center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” in 1400, at least 3,567 citizens were arrested by government agents:

  1. Political arrests: 1,918
  2.  arbitrary arrests: 476
  3.  Social arrests: 1,103
  4.  Arrests of followers of other religions: 70

Political arrests:

Political arrests include arrests made of citizens during nationwide protests, protests by teachers, workers, retirees and other strata, arrests during boycotts of the sham elections, during funerals for regime’s victims, holding religious ceremonies, etc.

At least 1,000 citizens were arrested during the Khuzestan uprising (known as the Uprising of the Thirsty Citizens). (In the statistics of arrests of political prisoners only the number 300 of these compatriots whose names are available to the Human Rights Center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” has been included and 700 others were not as we couldn’t obtain their names.)

During the Esfahan uprising, hundreds of compatriots were arrested.

Arbitrary arrests:

Arbitrary arrests were made under various titles, including the “publication of unethical images on the Internet”, “participation in ceremonies and celebrations”, “attempts to produce and publish hidden camera videos”, “participation in mixed-gender parties”, etc. It was carried out by government and security agents.

Social arrests:

Social arrests were made on charges including theft, robberies, fraud and …

Arrests of followers of other religions

These arrests are related to followers of the Baha’i faith and Christianity.

Torture in 1400 in Iran’s prisons:

In 1400, government agents continued to use the levers of torture to suppress prisons.

The methods of torture used in prisons were on one hand obvious tortures, such as flogging, limb breaking, and other such torture for pressuring the prisoner for forced confessions, and on the other hand psychological tortures such as throwing a prisoner in solitary confinement or transferring an inmate to high-security cells and holding a prisoner in such conditions for a very long time.

Depriving prisoners of their minimum rights, starving prisoners, having them sleep on the floors in overcrowded cells, lack of facilities in prisons, not delivering prisoners’ medicine, ban on contact and visitation, etc., are other forms of torture as levers to crush and suppress prisoners.

Outside prisons, we have also witnessed youths being showcased in the cities’ streets on the pretext of being a thug and humiliating them in public.

Arbitrary killings in 1400:

In 1400, according to statistics compiled by the Human Rights Center of “No to Prison- No to Execution”, at least 119 citizens were killed by armed government agents.
The 119 include Kolbars (border porters), fuelers, fishermen, shepherds, businessmen, etc.
In most of these cases, citizens have been murdered by armed agents of the Border Regiment, marines, police forces, IRGC forces (Islamic Revolutionary Guards forces), Basij agents, and plainclothes officers.

Murder in prisons in 1400: At least eight prisoners were killed under torture, four were murdered in prisons, and one was killed as being subject to the indifference by prison officials while on hunger strikes.
