Great concern about the condition of political prisoners Shaker Behroozi and Na’eb Askari after hunger strike and their transfer to solitary confinement
24 hours after transfer to solitary confinement, the conditions of Shaker Behroozi (death row political prisoner) and Na’eb Askari who are on hunger strike is worrisome.
The human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution”, Wednesday, March 30, 2022- Political prisoners, Shaker Behroozi and Na’eb Askari who went on hunger strike to protest their transfer from the ward of political prisoners to other wards, were taken to solitary confinement.
According to Hengaw human rights organization, Shaker Behroozi was summoned to the guards’ office on the excuse that he has a visitor and was then taken to ward 2.
Also, political prisoner, Na’eb Askari was taken to the Quarantine Ward as punishment when he had a quarrel with one of the prison agents.
The two went on hunger strike but their strike was answered back by being taken to solitary confinement.
Now after 24 hours of the transfer, there is no information about political prisoners Shaker Behroozi and Na’eb Askari and how their condition is. This has risen concerns.
About political prisoners Shaker Behroozi and Na’eb Askari
Political prisoner Shaker Behrozi has been a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (Komleh) for seven months and returned to Iran after leaving the party. He was arrested on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, in Urmia.
In late summer of 2020, Shaker Behroozi was sentenced to death by Judge Shaikhloo on charge of “Baghi” (taking up arms against the state) and “membership in Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran” at the second branch of Urmia Revolutionary Court.
He is also charged with murdering a member of the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps) called Maumal Mohammadi. This allegation comes at a time that there is no document or proof of the murder and 12 people have testified that he was not at the location of the murder at that time, but he was in a shop in Dizaj Township.
The death sentence was imparted to political prisoner, Shaker Behroozi in early fall of 2021.
He went on hunger strike in mid fall to protest the pressure that the MOIS (Ministry of Intelligence and Security) is putting on the families of the plaintiffs.
Political prisoner Na’eb Askari is from Urmia. He was detained by Urmia IRGC intelligence forces on Wednesday, March 24, 2022. He was kept at this agency’s detention center for three months and then he was transferred to Urmia Central Prison.
Na’eb Askari is charged by security agencies to “Moharebeh” (enmity with God) through membership in Kurdistan Free Party (Pezhak).
Na’eb Askari and two other political prisoners, Keyhan Mokarram and Na’eb Hajizadeh were each sentenced to 50 lashes and 3 more months of jail in August of 2021 after the Urmia warden complained against them and a new case was opened for them. The charge was “disrupting prison’s order”. Once again, the human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” urges the international human rights organizations, European Parliament, Ms. Michelle Bachelet the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights and Mr. Javaid Rehman, the Especial Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran to send an investigative humanitarian mission to visit Iran’s prisons. Life of the prisoners in general and political prisoners in particular, is at stake in Iran regime’s inhumane prisons.
