A prisoner’s fingers are in danger of being cut off
According to the human rights center, no to prison – no to execution. August 17, 2022; Seyed Mohammad Hosseini, a prisoner who is accused of theft, was sentenced to amputate his finger. And he was informed that in the coming days this sentence will be executed in Evin prison.
This prisoner is currently imprisoned in Gohardasht Karaj prison.
Seyed Mohammad Hosseini, the son of Seyed Hossein, is accused of several thefts. On August 19, 2014, this prisoner was sentenced to forfeit property amounting to 1800,000 and also to amputate his fingers.
On July 26, 2022, a decree was issued by Branch 9 of the Court of Appeal of the Central Province, confirming the conviction of amputating his finger. In the document that was issued, it is stated: “Cut off the fingers of the right hand from the end so that the thumb and palm remain.”
This decision was signed and approved by the head of the 9th branch of the Central Province Court of Appeals named Mohammad Reza Rahmati and Mohammad Reza Mehrandish.
Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini has been incarcerated in Arak Central Prison since 2014 and has recently been transferred to Gohardasht Karaj Prison.
It is said that Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini’s fingers amputation sentence will be executed in Evin prison in the coming days.
Amnesty International report
Earlier on August 1, 2022, in an urgent statement regarding the implementation of the criminal sentence of amputating the fingers of two prisoners, Amnesty International said that the Iranian authorities should be prosecuted for amputating the prisoners’ fingers.
In this statement, Amnesty International called on all countries to apply the principle of universal jurisdiction to criminally investigate and prosecute the Iranian authorities who are responsible for such crimes, based on international laws.
